Schaefer Architecture designed the Maize Performing Arts & Aquatics Center as an unusual hybrid for USD 266: an 88,000-square-foot building that combines a competitive natatorium with a full performing arts venue under one roof, sharing pool equipment and back-of-house space to hold down both capital and operating cost for the district. The building opened in January 2022.

Sky Acoustics Supercluster cloud panels tile the lobby ceiling in a folded field of triangles, each one stepped along its ridge with a slim channel of linear light traced into the seam. The pattern runs continuously from the entry down the full corridor toward the auditorium, giving the shared lobby between the pool and the theater a single, unifying ceiling.
