Car Park Two at Chesapeake

Elliott + Associates Architects designed Car Park Two on Chesapeake Energy's Oklahoma City campus to be unrecognizable as a parking garage, reading instead as a sculptural office building. The 791-space, four-level structure wraps a stainless steel wire mesh skin around its concrete frame, broken by a white portal that frames the glazed stair tower and gives the building a legible front door. Walker Parking Consultants supported the design, which ran from 2005 to completion in summer 2008.

W.S. Tyler developed a custom mesh for the project, LARGO-PLENUS 2022 in T316 stainless steel with slightly crimped flat wires, supplying 117 panels across roughly 3,200 square meters of facade at up to 13.4 by 3.65 meters each. At 25 percent open area, the weave reads as a nearly solid, reflective plane from outside while staying transparent enough from inside to see out. Polished aluminum tubes pass through cut-outs in the mesh on an invisible tensioning system, and darker mesh panels mark out the regular parking bays and separate the north and south elevations.
