Ohio State University Neil Avenue Parking Garage

The Neil Avenue Parking Garage gives a six-level, 983-space structure on Ohio State's medical campus a facade instead of a conventional precast screen. Antoine Predock set the original design concept to complement the adjacent Larkins Hall, and Moody Nolan, based in Columbus, carried it through technical realization and final design.

The screen is roughly 40,000 square feet of W.S. Tyler's MULTI-BARRETTE 8301 cable mesh, hung taut across the structural frame. Completed in November 2004, it was the first application of the mesh on a parking structure in the United States. In daylight the woven stainless steel reads as a single reflective plane that conceals the cars and circulation behind it; lit from within at night, the same mesh turns transparent.
