University of Washington Basketball Training Facility

Gensler designed this 36,000-square-foot facility for the University of Washington's men's and women's basketball programs on the former Pavilion Pool site east of Alaska Airlines Arena, steps from Husky Stadium. Two full-size, 9,800-square-foot practice courts sit on either side of a central spine, each program with its own dedicated, 24-hour space, and a suspended skywalk mezzanine lets recruits and family watch practice from above. Mortenson delivered the roughly $60 million, donor-funded project as design-build partner, completed in mid-2025 and certified LEED Gold.

A brick base grounds the building in the surrounding athletics district, and Danpal translucent polycarbonate panels wrap the upper volume above it. The system admits soft daylight to the courts below by day; after dark, the same panels take an internal wash of Husky purple, turning the whole upper wall into a lit sign visible across the stadium approach.
